I did this to my system just yesterday and it worked perfectly. Follow these instructions and you’ll have it running in no time!
This guide is INTEL ONLY! I have not tested it on an AMD, you’re better of going with the other installation guide if you have an AMD processor.and you can find that guide here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=14739Things you need<br>Intel SSE3 processor (apparently you can use an SSE2, but I would NOT recommend it.) <br>At least 512mb of RAM <BR>Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD<br>GParted Live CD (download the first one)<br>One blank DVD and one blank CD<br>A copy of PartitionMagic (if you already have XP)<br>A copy of Windows XP (only if you haven’t installed it yet)<br><br>Things you SHOULD have<br>Another computer with internet connection (not needed, just used in the case that something goes wrong)<br>A printed copy of this guide<br> .
*
*NOTE: DUAL BOOTING - For people installing on Western Digital HDDs. There is no need to set HDD to MASTER if you’re using only 1 HDD. No jumper is required to set to Master. If you do have the jumper set to MASTER after installation and on reboot and if you use GParted to set active boot partition back to Windows, you will get INVALID/NON SYSTEM DISK. This is a quirk with Western Digital drives.[edit] Disclaimer
I am NOT NOT NOT responsible for anything that happens to your system. This is a relatively easy process, but if you mess up with the partitioning you could POTENTIALLY cause damage to your drive! Follow these instructions to the letter and you should be fine, but if you feel you need to, BACK UP YOUR IMPORTANT FILES! Don’t mess around with the install!
Don’t let that put you off though, having one of these is a great experience. If you enjoy the final outcome, consider donating to the Kalyway team or even more importantly, buy a license. I myself own a proper Mac, and it is one of the best purchases I’ve ever made.
Note: I did not backup my files and everything still worked, but if you have very important files, I’d recommend putting them on a USB stick or something. .
Please Beware if you are already dual booting ( for me i was dual booting xp and windows 7) that when you shrink the first partition to make room for a partition for OSX and then using disk utility in the osx installer to format the partition for OSX (as detailed in this tutorial) it will also delete the partition after it.[edit]WELCOME LOOP FIX
on some occasions you get a loop on the mac welcome video. here is a fix:
i just booted with -s option (in terminal modethen typed the/sbin/fsck -fy/sbin/mount -uw /
cd to /Volumes/ -- ur disk name here--- /var/db
then touch .AppleSetupDonethen passwdset a password for root account[edit] Windows XP Installation
Doing this when you have already installed XP will delete all data on your hard drive! If you have already have XP installed, scroll down to Partitioning.hope helps by jonoaa
1) Insert your XP disk as soon as your computer starts up. 2) Boot from the CD and follow instructions until you get to the Partition screen. 3) Delete the partitions already there. To delete a partition, highlight it with the arrow keys and press D, then L.4) Select the unpartitioned space, then press C to create a new partition.5) Now, think about how much space you need for both XP and OS X. It depends on your hard drive. I’d say you should have 20GB of space for your OS X partition AT LEAST, as the iLife applications etc. take up a fair bit of room.6) Now, type the size in MB for your Windows install. Remember, 1024 MB is a gigabyte. ;) If your hard drive is 80GB, leave 20GB for your mac. That gives you 60GB to work with on the PC side which is 61440 MB. So if you have an 80 GB drive, enter 61440. 7) Press enter.9) Now, select that partition and press enter. Then choose NTFS.10) Press enter and follow through all the setup steps.11) Once Setup is completely finished and you have activated Windows, open a command prompt by clicking Run in the start menu and typing CMD.12) Now type: diskpart and hit enter.13). Then type: select disk 0 and hit enter (assuming this is the only hard drive in your machine).14) Type: create partition primary id=af and hit enter (it should respond after a few seconds that it created the partition).15) Type: exit and hit enter (this will exit diskpart).16) Close the command prompt window. Thanks to bluedragon1971 from InsanelyMac for the command prompt procedure!Just finished the XP install? Skip the next section and go onwards to Burning. .[edit] Partitioning Kalyway For Mac Pro
ONLY do this if you already have XP installed and you haven’t done the above steps.1) Open Partition Magic.2) Click Create New Partition. 3) Follow instructions until you get to the screen where it asks you to specify a size. 4) Remember, it’s in MB (1024 MBs to a gigabyte) so have at least 20 GB for your new Mac partition. (20480 MB) 5) Assuming you have space on your Windows partition, PartitionMagic will take the space from there. 6) Choose FAT32 for the partition format. You can choose either primary (requires ’chain0’) or logical (requires ’tboot’) partitions. Logical partitions are easier as they can be placed anywhere on the hard disk. On the other hand primary partitions require to be placed before the extended (* on partitionmagic). This can get messy as it requires significant data/partition movement time.7) Follow instructions until it says that you have to restart. Restart your computer at this point and wait for the process to finish. Now that that’s finished, let’s move onto the next step. . .[edit] Burning
1) Locate your Gparted Live CD and Kalyway downloads, then go and download Infra Recorder. 2) Open Infra Recorder, and select the ’Actions’ menu, then ’Burn image’.3) Find your GParted Live CD file, then insert a blank CD (not DVD).4) When that’s finished, do the same except select your Kalyway file and insert a blank DVD. Make sure you set the speed to 4x to avoid making a coaster out of your DVD.Once that’s done, move onto the best part: Installing OS X![edit] OS X
Keep your GParted and Kalyway CDs handy during this part of the install.
1) Reboot your computer with the Kalyway disk in the drive. 2) Press any key to boot from the CD.Note: If your computer boots into XP, you must restart and hold down DEL until you enter BIOS setup. Find the section where it lists your first second and third boot devices. This is usually inside the first link on the main menu. Use PGUP/PGDN to change the first boot device to CD, then the second to HDD. Press F10 to save settings (type Y in the box that pops up) and then exit setup. If you need further BIOS help, search for it on another site.3) When it says ’Starting Mac OS X Installer’, press F8. 4) Type -v and press enter. 5) Grab yourself a coffee or a biscuit. You’ve done well so far, this part may take a while. 6) When all that text has gone, you should have come to a language selection screen. Click the arrow to use English as the primary language. 7) When the welcome box pops up, don’t click Continue. Click Utilities in the menu bar, then Disk Utility.8) Select the Mac partition. You should easily be able to tell which one it is by clicking a partition in the sidebar, then looking at the size down the bottom. If the Available is more than a few MB lower than the Capacity, then that is your Windows partition. DO NOT SELECT THIS ONE. Select the other partition which should be above or below this one in the sidebar and have almost no difference between the capacity and avaliable space. Note: Even if you have checked this, make doubly sure! There should be around a 2GB difference between the Windows partition’s capacity and available space.9) With the correct partition selected, click the Erase tab.10) Open the drop-down menu and select Mac OS Extended (Journaled). ’Make no mistakes here. We are turning a previously tailored FAT32 partition into Macs native file system. Failing to do this will most probably lead to this error at later stage of installation - can not copy some files to /volume/name* ’11) Enter a name* and keep it simple. Some examples are ’mac’, ’leopard’ and ’osx’ (without quotes and *). DO NOT USE A SPACE OR A SPECIAL CHARACTER LIKE ! OR & IN THE NAME!12) Click Erase and then Erase again in the box that comes up. 13) This shouldn’t take long at all, and then you’ll find the partition you selected to erase is now called whatever name you gave it. Exit Disk Utility by clicking the red button in the corner. You’re now back at the Welcome screen. 14) Click Continue and then click agree.15) In the Installation Destination screen, click the partition that has the name you just gave it. Then click continue.16) In the next screen, click Customize. As long as you are using the 10.5.2 disk, you should have not much to worry about. You don’t need to select MBR like in the previous release. Don’t select a different kernel unless you know what you are doing, the default one is good. There should be a section called Applications, which has some great apps you can have installed by default, eg Adium (an amazing instant messaging client) VLC (one of the best media players) and much more.17) Once you’re finished click Done. Then click install.Note: The media check will begin after you have finished the install. This ensures that the disk has all the necessary files to install OS X. If you REALLY want to, you can skip the check, however, checking the media is the best way to ensure a safe install.18) The media check takes a fair while and depending on the amount of RAM, so will the install. If you have 1GB, then the actual install should complete in about 15 min.19)Once it’s done, you’ll have to reboot. As it reboots, put the GParted CD in the drive.20) Wait for it to load (window and all) then right-click on your Windows partition (it has a file system of NTFS). Click Manage Flags.21) Tick the box for boot. Click OK.22) Click quit on the desktop and when prompted, take the CD out. Reboot. You should now be in Windows. If not, repeat steps 19 to 22. If so, move along to the next section! .[edit] Bootloading
As of now, we have a working Windows install, but we haven’t got any way to get to OS X. We’ll fix that in this section. But first you will require either ’chain0.zip’ for primary partition or ’tboot.zip’ for logical/extended partition.1) Open My Computer.2) Double-click on the C drive.3) Click Tools, then Folder Options.4) Click the View tab, then in the scrolling box, select ’Show Hidden Files and Folders’.5) Uncheck ’Hide protected operating system files (recommended)’.6) Click OK.7) Now, you should be back in the C: Drive. Look for a file called boot.ini. Right click on it and select Properties.8) Untick the Read-Only checkbox.9) Now press OK, then right click again on boot.ini.10) Click Open With... then select Notepad.
11) Make a new line at the bottom and copy and paste this code:
C:chain0=’Mac OS X86’
12) Save the file and exit Notepad.13) Now we have to copy a file called ’chain0’ to the C: drive. This is apparently on the Kalyway disk, but it is very hard to get. Instead, download it from here (RAR file) or here (zip file). Extract it then put the resulting file (chain0 without any extensions) into the root of the C: drive (the same place where boot.ini is located.)
Alternatively, you could get this advanced tboot. A revised version of chain0 loader that supports multi HDD as well as booting OSX from extended ( logical ) partition. tboot file also goes in C:, adding the following line to boot.ini
c:tboot=’Mac OSX Leopard’Kalyway For Mac Computers
14) Reboot. If all goes well, you should see a menu that says Windows XP and Mac OS X86 when you start your computer up! Navigate to Mac OS X86 and when it says press any key, press the any key and select the option with the name https://diarynote.indered.space
